Poster and Pitch Training

Wetskills Mexcio 2019 - by Ilse Meeuwsen (Radboud University) & Cesar Chávez Flores (Instituto Tecnologico de Arandas) - After a really nice and fun night most of us had problems to wake up this morning. Today poster and pitch training was on the program, but first two groups had a skype call with their case owners. The poster training and the pitch training is very important, as we only have a small amount of time to finish our cases. So the time we have, we need to fill in efficiently. We saw some examples from posters of previous Wetskills and had to mention what was good and what could be improved. After the training we had a good idea how to design a poster and how it should look like. We also noticed while talking, that all groups are struggling with their cases. This was actually a good way to do a small...

“Saturday’s work”

Wetskills South Korea 2019 -  by Youngin Kim (Hongik University)    Today is weekend, but everyone worked together. We met at a later time than usual because we all played late yesterday. Today our team conducted a data survey and discussed our case in order to find a solution to the problem. One of the team members suggested a very good solution.   I went out for lunch at about one in the afternoon. I had a hamburger with Hyojung and Dami. After lunch, I went back to work. Our team wrote a report and prepared for tomorrow's work. I am having a hard time because I am not good at English. But I'm very grateful to my teammates because they help me a lot....

Feedback, Piñata and Party

Wetskills Mexico 2019 - by Regina Méndez Guerrero (Universidad Panamericana) and Alejandra López Vázquez del Mercado (Universidad Panamericana) - Today we had a different workflow than the whole week; at the morning each team met with Tim and Ken to have some feedback and be ready for the final steps of Wetskills and keep working during the day. After all the teams hard work by the morning, we went to Arturo’s house where he had a delicious barbecue. It was a really a group effort with some people that went to buy everything, while others started with preparing for the party. Two of our Mexican friends (Arturo and Leo) were the masters of the barbecue and they did a pretty good job feeding all the food lovers of the team. For desert two Dutch friends (Quirine and Ilse) baked an exquisite apple crumble that is a traditional dessert from The Netherlands. The...

Thank God It’s Friday

Wetskills South Korea 2019 - by Jinwoo Kim (Kyungpook National University) -    Today, we started with a poster and pitch introduction program. From that program, I could know about some technics. We were discussing about the posters looking at 6 sample posters. We shared the idea what is nice or what to fix. Then, we watch the elevator pitch. It was interesting for me because I thought it takes a lot of time to persuade people. But I got to know that the time is no matter and summarizing is important in speech. Moreover, Making pain and concept clearer could helpful for speech. Both of two introduction programs helped me think wider.   After the program, we were going to study by group. I felt all of study time goes too fast. It is my first time that group meeting is held for a week. Sometimes, it was very tired but as I watch...

Ideas are coming together

Wetskills Mexico 2019 - by Leonardo Bueno Guerrero (Universidad de Guadalajara) & Brenda Palomares (UNAM) - Things have started to come together, today we got a peak of how far other team’s work is coming along. It was the first time that we talked about the cases of everyone and we still had a big question mark above our heads. It’s amazing to see how all the creativity and ideas and different backgrounds can be depicted in the awesome ideas that are shaping. We’ve come a long way. Here at Wetskills the journey is about working with water issues in different approaches, geographic situations and getting you out of your comfort zone to see a problem you might have seen a thousand times. It is also about teamwork; we are learning by living and practicing teamwork every day, getting to know about different cultures, and broadening our points of view in a...

“Wet”skills finally meets the expectations

Wetskills South Korea 2019 -  by Amber van der Meijs (Waterschap Brabantse Delta)    What started as a dry and sunny morning, turned quickly into a wet-morning. The thunder started and the rain suddenly came pouring out of the sky. Like really pouring pouring. Which wasn’t terrible, because for the first time I felt not bad for being inside. Not that other days are thát bad, but it makes life harder when you need to stay inside when the sun is out and the world looks like a better and happier place. So, finally the wet in wetskills became relevant.     Just around when it started to rain, our case-owners were about to arrive. Such weather conditions wasn’t the warm welcome we were hoping to give them. My group and I were quite excited to meet our case owners, because it felt like a luxury to ask the case owners questions and engage into a...

Third day of Wetskills: a day of action plan

Wetskills South Korea 2019 -  by Sandeep Busakala (Yeungnam University) -    I tend to wake up early today, after quick shower and tea. I went to Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Community Lounge at 9:00 am. My teammates (Amber, Dami, and Sanne), Wetskills management and other teams have also arrived there. In the morning we had a brainstorm session regarding action plans of study case assigned us yesterday about, culture: catalyst of the water transition of Friesland. We divided the topics for action plan related to everyone’s interest and close to our educational backgrounds. Afterwards, we worked individually around 2 hours then combined our work and discussed with all team members. Before leaving for lunch we submitted our action plans to Wetskills management at 12 pm. I am fond of food so I tried Chinese Noodles in a Chinese restaurant located near KIST campus at Wolgok station subway.     We came back...

I wish I could be better than yesterday

Wetskills South Korea 2019 -  by Hyojeong Lee (Hongik University) -   There was a team announcement today. I wondered what case I was going to study, but I was so nervous about having to team up with new people. I was worried a lot at first, but fortunately, all of our members were active and cared for me, who was not used to speaking in English, so I was able to adjust gradually over time.   After Team Announcement, we got together by team for the first Brainstorm time. Our group's case was 'Water supply for Mekong River Delta in Vietnam.' Actually this case was the case that I wrote as the number one. It was lucky for our group to hear about the current situation in Vietnam directly with the advice of case owner during speed dating time.   We had time to talk with the experts on Speed dating time, and we were only...

Brain Hurricane in the University Panamericana

Wetskills Mexico 2019 - by Lisa Kappetijn (psychology and international politics) and Sofía Casco (innovation and design eng.) -   Today we spend the whole day at the University of Panamericana. Beautiful place with great facilities, we are honored to be hosted and appreciate the generosity. The day started relaxed with people coming in for the Wetskills introduction presentation. This gave an even better insight to all the things we are going to learn.   After that, we did the brain hurricane which was intense, but super informative. Each group of the four groups discussed their case in a 10 minute speed session with an expert. It was very interesting which gave us the feeling of getting 20 solutions, 20 problems and 5 Worldviews.   In the afternoon we all went to different directions to bring all the information together and worked on first drafts the Action Plan. Our group had the pleasure of the presence...
