Once in summer: greatness begins with an idea

Wetskills Palestinian Territories 2022 -  by Ali Alkhateeb (Master student in Water Science Innovations at Palestine Technical University)   My name is Ali, a master student in Water Science Innovations in Tulkarm, I graduated from An-Najah National University in Nablus, my graduation project was in water related issues, so I am looking forward to improve my skills in water sector, specially in finding new water resources.   Wetskills for me is a great chance for improving my knowledge and skills, we have met many experts who gave us very useful information about water sector in Palestine, and the obstacles facing the development of this sector. So finding innovative ways to provide water became a priority, and hopefully participation in Wetskills helps our community and all countries suffering water problems.   Luckily today we finished gathering information and reports related to our case, had a very interesting  day at Palestinian Hydrologists Group and Ma'an, currently we are working...

it’s a wrap

Wetskills Palestinian Territories 2022 - by Jesse Frunt (TU Delft)    This morning, we had a slow start with a 20 minute delay. Today, we are working at the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) which is located here in Ramallah. Inge kicked the day off with a presentation about the Pitch & Poster. She warned us at the beginning of her presentation: the more questions, the longer it is going to take. So with this group, I knew enough… Approaching the end of the first presentation, about the poster, Inge showed us some examples from our predecessors of Wetskills. We got super critical and we have set the bar very high for ourselves.     After a well-deserved coffee break, Inge was about to start her second presentation about the pitch when Dr. Subhi Samhan walked into the room and claimed his time. He spoke to us about how to properly pitch our ideas and to...

Faith and Action

Wetskills Palestinian Territories 2022 -  by Marie Czwielung (HZ University of Applied Sciences)      I applied at Wetskills mainly to improve my cultural awareness and learn more about how professionals in the field of water work in other countries. When I saw that there is a project in the Palestinian territories I immediately knew that I needed to go. I’ve always been very interested in the middle east and Palestine in particular and have not had the opportunity to experience this culture yet. When I got the message that I’ve been accepted into wetskills I was incredibly happy but also immediately a little bit scared. As Europeans we think we know what is going on in the area as we continue to follow the news and we also have certain stereotypes and thoughts about the culture in general.     When my trip came closer friends and family continued to tell me that they are worried...

My team starting in hard working and thinking out-of-the-box to solve the problem case, and we are still studying the effectiveness of our solution. After we had lunch (which was served with a fortune cookie), zoom meeting started with Dr. Moatasem and he gave us a useful lecture on business canvas model.   ...

A fish swimming in space

Wetskills Palestinian Territories 2022- by Areen Shareef (Salfeet Municipality)   I’m Areen and I’m a Palestinian architect and who joined wetskills in Palestine, in the beginning I really felt like I’m a fish swimming in the space, What does an architect doing in a water challenge event!!!!   I will admit that I was thinking about quitting in the first day, since I’m a shy person who doesn’t get comfortable with many people around her, but then a friend which is also in wetskills Palestine said to me sometimes you have to go for unexpected places to find the answers you want, and I guess that’s what I did!   I was flopping around the last period due to some normal life struggles and I thought well, why not? This could be my chance now to rebuild my trust in myself, and do you know what? Its’ even more than what I was expect it to be!   A...
