Save the date: Wetskills-Kyrgyzstan 2018 (week 42-43)

In the pipeline: Wetskills is preparing a next event in Kyrgyzstan. At the moment we are planning with some partners this event. The official announcement will come later, after the agreement with the proposed partners. The planning is subjected to change! However you can already send us your interest by email.   ---   For the first time the Wetskills Water Challenge will rediscover the ancient silk trading routes in Central Asia, the cradle of civilization. Since ancient metropolises arose more than 2500 years ago, nomadic populations started coming together and founded not only international trading routes, but also routes for exchanging knowledge, religions, culture and ideas.   The silk roads are coming back, and Wetskills will be on that road in the second part of October 2018 to connect international, intercultural and interdisciplinary students and young professionals in a unique challenge out of  your comfort zone.   Wetskills Foundation and partners will organize the first Wetskills Water Challenge...

Report YWP program Aquatech Shanghai

Wetskills Foundation was requested to organize the Young Water professionals (YWP) program at the Aquatech Exhibition in Shanghai (31 May to 2 June). The event included a central opening with keynote, a water quiz, roundtables and panel discussions. Everything on a dedicated YWP AreaThis was aligned to the Wetskills-China 2018 event, which finals was held at the central opening of the Aquatech. WetsNext on transboundary cooperation South Africa and Lesotho

Cape Town June 2018, Directly after the Finals of Wetskills-South Africa 2018, with the presence of Minister Gugile Nkwinti of Water and Sanitation of South Africa and Special Water Envoy Henk Ovink of the Dutch government, some discussions took place to implement some of the ideas. The case owner from Department of Water Affairs Lesotho and his team of the case about the Wetlands Awareness Programme (WAP)  took the opportunity to go to Henk Ovink and discussed the implementation of the case. Aim is creating a win-win situation for both South Africa and Lesotho. At the discussions in the Joint Steering Committee between South Africa and The Netherlands, it was stated that the Young Water Professionals' involvement is crucial. So based on the outcomes of the team and the created network amongst participants (from both the South African and Lesotho water departments) the discussions resulted in a list of ideas. Bye Day Zero wins Wetskills-South Africa 2018

Cape Town, June 2018 - Minister of Water and Sanitation of South Africa, Mr. Gugile Nkwinti and Mr. Henk Ovink, Special Water Envoy for the kingdom of The Netherlands, awarded the winning team 'Water Sleuths' with their concept 'Bye Day Zero' at a special ceremony at the WISA Conference in Cape Town. The team came up with a concept to raise awareness of Capetonians on their Water Footprint (on top of the direct water use) and lower the Water Footprint for Cape Town to avoid Day Zero on the long term. City of Cape Town and Water Footprint Implementation formulated the case and supported the team during the research.   This Wetskills Water Challenge was 31st event worldwide and 4th event in South Africa at the WISA Conference in Cape Town. MasterClass Henk Ovink at University of Cape Town

Henk Ovink, Special Envoy for International Water Affairs, Kingdom of The Netherlands and (more important) Wetskills Ambassador, will provide a MasterClass on Global Water Challenges at the University of Cape Town on Sunday 24 June from 12.30 to 14.00 (coffee / tea from 12.00). He will share his experiences and reflect on tackling complex and integral challenges with various stakeholders. Together with the Wetskills Teams he will discuss the teams' experiences of last week in an interactive way.
