Wetskills-Zimbabwe 2026 – Blog 2 –

The much anticipated Wetskills Zimbabwe 2026 programme officially kicked off at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Bulawayo, setting the tone for an inspiring journey ahead.

The opening day was held in the Council Chambers, where participants gathered to immerse themselves in the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange. Craig Tinashe Tanyanyiwa, the Regional Manager Southern Africa (Wetskills) opened the session with a comprehensive overview of the Wetskills programme, tracing its history and highlighting the global events scheduled for 2026. His words reminded us that this initiative is not just about solving water challenges, but also about building bridges across cultures and disciplines. A special video message from Johan Oost, Managing Director of Wetskills, added a personal touch to the day. Through his warm welcome, participants felt connected to the broader Wetskills community worldwide, reinforcing the sense of belonging to something bigger than ourselves.

The event was graced by distinguished representatives from NUST. Professor Yogeshkumar Naik, the Pro Vice Chancellor, extended a heartfelt welcome to participants, emphasizing the university’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration. His introduction was facilitated by Dr. Busiso Mtunzi, Executive Dean, who underscored the importance of the programme in nurturing future leaders. Guiding the day’s proceedings was Tinashe Shumba, who shared the programme schedule and ensured the smooth flow of activities. His leadership kept the energy high and the participants engaged throughout.

The participants started playing the crazy 88 game. It was an exciting and engaging experience that brought together participants through a variety of interactive activities. Participants were divided into five groups, each working together throughout the session to complete different challenges and tasks. The activities encouraged teamwork, communication, creativity, and problem solving while also creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere. The session provided an opportunity for participants to interact beyond their usual circles, strengthen collaboration skills and build meaningful connections. Overall, the games session was not only entertaining but also an effective team building experience that left participants energized and more connected.
