Wetskills-SA Cape Town 2026 – Day 9 –
Today, many of us were running on very little sleep after staying up to watch the thrilling final between Spain and Argentina. It was a great match, with Spain eventually lifting the trophy, making for an unforgettable weekend.
Wetskills programme started with an early morning trip from our backpackers’ accommodation to the University of Cape Town’s New Engineering Building. When we arrived at the venue, our supervisors briefed us on the day’s programme. The main activity was a dry run of our final pitches, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. This was more than just a practice session. It was an opportunity to present our ideas to fellow Wetskills participants, who acted as judges and provided constructive feedback.
Each team received valuable comments on different aspects of their presentation, including time management, presentation style, the clarity of the message, and the overall quality and design of their posters. It was encouraging to see everyone openly sharing ideas and helping one another improve. The atmosphere was supportive, and the feedback highlighted both the strengths of our projects and the areas that still needed refinement.
As exciting as the session was, every group realised there were still gaps in their work. Fortunately, we were given time to return to our workstations, refine our presentations, improve our posters, and address the feedback we had received. One of the biggest lessons from the day was that constructive criticism is an important part of innovation. Receiving feedback from people with different backgrounds and perspectives helped us look at our projects differently and strengthened our confidence ahead of the final presentations.
Day 9 was not only about practising our pitches but also about learning the importance of collaboration, continuous improvement, and being open to feedback. As we move closer to the final presentations, our teams feel more prepared, more confident, and even more excited to showcase the solutions we have developed throughout the Wetskills programme.
