Wetskills-SA Cape Town 2026 – Day 10 –
Today was poster and paper submission day. We put the final touches on everything we’ve been building over the last few days. There was that mix of feelings – late nights finally turning into something we can show.
Innovation Pitch Rehearsals
After that, we went straight into the innovation pitches rehearsal. Under the supervision of Precious, Craig, Ashton, Charne and Ashley, each group presented and got real, honest feedback on what to improve. It wasn’t just about the slides – it was about telling the story, owning the problem, and showing why our solution matters for South Africa’s water sector. The notes were tough but helpful. We’re walking out sharper.
Climate Scan Session
Dr Charne then presented on Climate Scan, an international, interactive, web-based platform for sharing knowledge on climate adaptation projects. It’s coordinated by Hanze University and has over 2000 projects and 5000 users worldwide. The idea is simple: map out what cities and communities are doing to adapt to climate change – from raingardens and SuDS to green infrastructure – so we can learn from each other instead of starting from zero. It was a good reminder that water solutions can’t ignore climate.
WISA Welcome Cocktail
To close out the day, we attended the WISA Conference Welcome Cocktail at CTICC. We completed registration, familiarised ourselves with company names in the water sector, and had snacks while networking. It was a great way to shift from “student mode” to “industry mode” and see where our Wetskills work could fit in the bigger picture.
Day 10 felt like a checkpoint. Papers in, pitches polished, and a reminder that the work we’re doing ties directly into climate resilience and real industry needs.
