Wetskills-SA Cape Town 2026 – Day 5 –
We continued the group work on the water challenges and were provided with a training in business thinking with the Canvas Business Model.
The day commenced at the University of Cape Town with a check-in by the supervisors to reflect on action plans and group roles to assess progress and to ensure that all teams remain on track to complete their tasks within estimated time.
The team working on the design of an Artificial Wetland for Waste Water Treatment at the Roodeplaat Dam, had a discussion with case owner Susan Andrews from the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS). She joined us for a physical meeting to discuss location decisions and site specifics. A valuable discussion to align the direction envisioned by the team with the situation on the ground and the priorities of the case owner.
Also that morning, Ashton Busani delivered an insightful presentation on the Business Model Canvas. The session covered topics ranging from value propositions, customer relations and partnering to revenue streams, encouraging the participants to think deliberately about the added value and economic attractiveness and feasibility of their solutions. The presentation equipped participants with practical tools for developing sustainable and viable business models that can support long-term impact.
Following our sunny lunch break, teams spent the remainder of the day working on their projects, refining their solutions, and consulting with supervisors as they prepared for the next stages of the programme. The day concluded with participants and supervisors receiving goodie bags from DWS.
