Wetskills-Spain 2026 – Blog 1 –
Today marked the beginning of my Wetskills journey in Barcelona. I got an opportunity to meet participants from diverse backgrounds, representing countries including Argentina, Colombia, Denmark, Egypt, Iran, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, the United States, and South Africa.
We began with an interactive meet and greet, where we were paired with participants outside of our contries of origin to learn more about one another. This was quite a fascinating experience for me since it was my first time meeting so many international individuals coming from different walks of life. I learnt quite a lot about their cultures, experiences and perspectives about life.
We later moved into a more formal introduction session, where Mr Tinashe introduced us to the Wetskills programme and explained its origin and main objectives. He thereafter dove into the importance of developing a clear and actionable plan rather than just simply having a concept, which was one of the key things that we would need to develop in our respective teams. Cultural awareness was another key focus area, where he touched on the importance of understanding that people may think, communicate, behave and approach situations differently. However, being openminded and respectful promotes effective collaboration in multicultural teams and creates a healthy environment where everyone’s input is valued.
We were then divided into groups and played Crazy88 a team building activity designed to encourage creativity, collaboration and stepping out our comfort zones. Well, it achieved its purpose since we spent the rest of the day in our groups trying to complete as many of the Crazy88 “dares” as we could, before going to dinner.
We thereafter concluded the day on a high note at one of Barcelona’s most prestigious restaurants, Mussol Arenas. “La comida estaba deliciosa”.
