Wetskills-Mozambique – Blog day 1 –
On the 13th of July 2024, we arrived in Beira. I was engulfed by the city’s warm weather as soon as we landed. It is currently winter. Nonetheless, you would assume otherwise. I am thrilled to learn about Beira’s culture, which is new to me, and to gain a wealth of new experiences that will stay with me for the rest of our life. The city appears to be an amazing adventure waiting to happen.
First Impressions
At the airport, I was met with smiles and individuals ready to assist. Shortly after getting our luggage, I went to the bus we would be traveling on, and I got to meet some of the participants of the Wetskills Challenge. There are participants from Mozambique, South Africa, and the Netherlands. We will not only create innovative solutions to the water challenges aggravated by climate change, but we will also connect and get to know each other. We noticed both new and old structures on our route to the hotel. Beira is a resilient city, as evidenced by the people who have picked themselves up, especially after facing Cyclone Idai.
Trip to Gorongosa: An Unforgettable Experience
On the 13th of July 2024, our Wetskills group had the incredible opportunity to embark on a journey to the Gorongosa district. The adventure began around 3 pm when we left the city of Beira and headed to the airport to pick up other colleagues who would join us. The trip went smoothly, and we arrived in Gorongosa around 6 pm. Upon arrival, we went to the dorms to drop off our belongings and prepare for dinner.
Dinner was simply wonderful. The food was delicious, and the company of our colleagues made the experience even more enjoyable. After dinner, we had a small meeting to discuss the plans for the next day. The main highlight would be the safari, one of the most anticipated activities for everyone.
During the meeting, we talked about the programs we would follow the next day, from preparing for the Safari to the return to the city of Beira. It was an important moment to ensure that everyone was aligned and aware of the schedule.
Conclusion
In conclusion, our arrival in Beira was pleasant. Being here in this city to participate in the Wetskills Challenge is exciting. We look forward to going on the various excursions, meeting the case owner, and resolving the issues.
