The first day of the second week started with an amusing summary presentation of all Wetskills participants and the guest lecturers of the first week, made by CEE.

After that, Johan gave us a training on making a poster (photo 1), which is one of the end products to be delivered at the end of the week. Not only did we get advices on how to make an attractive poster, we also shared our opinions on posters from previous years. Although we did not share the same opinions on which posters were good and which would need some improvements, we all had an idea for ourselves of what is and is not suitable to put on a poster. After a tea break, in which we shared our ten kilos of “pepernoten” to celebrate Sinterklaas, the poster training was followed by a training on giving an elevator pitch (photo 2).

Then, it was time to start for real with the group work on the cases. For our case on the Common Effluent Treatment Plant Vatva, we started with a literature study on possibilities to lower COD and TDS levels in the effluent, resource recovery, water reuse and case studies in similar environments. This all in order to find a challenge that is not too broad to come up with an out of the box solution in just a few days’ time. Halfway the afternoon, a journalist from a local newspaper came by for a short interview with some of the team members and the rest of the day was filled with discussions on possible solutions with a CEE teacher and within the group.

After a quick dinner and a cultural visit on the way back to the campus (photo 3), the day was finished with some final research (photo 4) while enjoying Sinterklaas songs, Bert&Ernie CDs (not appreciated by all), the warm evening and the company of the campus dogs at the CEE cafeteria.
