Craig Tinashe Tanyanyiwa

Wetskills presents an opportunity to network and create new friendships and partnerships while tackling real-life water problems. My experience as a past participant was exciting and I am looking forward being in my new role as team member – Craig Tinashe

Exciting News: Craig Tinashe Tanyanyiwa joins the Wetskills Team permanently!

We were thrilled to announce that Craig Tinashe Tanyanyiwa joined the Wetskills team permanently through the Netherlands Young Experts Programme (YEP), see: www.yepprogrammes.com. Craig started on 1 October as a full-time staff member of the Wetskills Foundation after finishing his PhD and teaching duties at the University of Cape Town. His workplace is at the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) offices in Cape Cape Town as part of the ongoing cooperation between Wetskills and DWS.

Craig joined Wetskills-South Africa 2018 in Cape Town as a participant of the winning team. Since that year, he has been an invaluable part of the Wetskills family, having previously served as a dedicated supervisor for events in Cape Town and Durban in 2023. Craig is also a member of the National Committee of the Young Water Professionals in South Africa. He is now taking on the role of Regional Manager for Southern Africa, based in South Africa. His expertise and dedication will also be vital in advancing our Wetskills events, Wetskills Community, and WetsNext initiatives in the region.

The YEP position for a Wetskills Team member was initiated during the UN 2023 Water Conference in New York. Wetskills and the YEP programme were part of organising the Youth & Education Day of the New York Water Week (20-24 March 2023). During this week, Wetskills and YEP discussed the strengthening and acceleration of the current cooperation. YEP and Wetskills share many alumni who participated in both programmes and organized events in the past together. Creating a more aligned community and communication are aims to work on in the coming period. That is why the idea was launched to create a YEP position for a Wetskills Team member in South Africa. The Department of Water & Sanitation, also present in New York, joined the initiative as the hosting partner for the local YEP position.

We eagerly looked forward to the year ahead and were excited to have Craig Tinashe as a key member of our team!
