Wetskills-Zimbabwe 2024 – Blog day 3 –

Today on the Wetskills programs we had two training sessions to help each team make the most out of its members. The first session was on the Belbin Roles. We learnt about the nine key roles for a successful team. Dr Craig Tanyanyiwa educated the group on the importance of the Belbin team roles as well as how a team with more diverse roles can achieve more than a team of people with similar roles.

The Belbin roles promote interdisciplinary collaborations resulting in the combined creativity of all fields. The roles can be categorized into 3 main roles: Thinking oriented roles, People/social oriented roles and Action oriented roles. These roles are further broken down to make the 9 Belbin roles namely the Plant, Monitor and specialist roles being the thinking oriented roles, The coordinator, team worker and resource roles being the social oriented roles, and lastly the driver, implementer and completer roles being action oriented roles. Each group had to figure out where each member fits in by taking an online self assessment test. We learnt a lot about ourselves and our team members and how we could contribute to the success of the team.

The second session was on drawing up a Plan of action. In the session we were told how to set up a plan of action. This was done by watching two examples.  One of the examples was a bad example and the other was good.  The examples were drawn from famous movies( Guardians of the Galaxy and the Lion King). After everything was clarified we started on our own plan of actions. Discussions between team members were held and ideas about the cases were shared.
