Wetskills-Mozambique – Blog day 3 –
Today we visited the water treatment plant of Beira. It is the only water plant that delivers clean water to Beira. When we arrived we all got a helmet, a safety jacket and earprotection. The first stop of the tour around the terrain of the plant was at the catchment river. From this river the water is pumped towards the waterplant. The water goes through several stages at the plant, to remove sedimentation and chemicals.
Since this is the only waterplant of Beira, a lot of people are dependent on it. So it is really important that the plant can keep functioning well, which can be challenge given the high cost of electricity and needed chemicals for the pumping and filtering of the water.
Crazy88 tour in the city of Beira
We ended the day with a crazy88 tour, where we were all challenged to do 88 crazy things within the city of Beira.
Crazy88: Embarking on a journey to unfamiliar places leaded us to a series of unexpected and enlightening experiences. Meeting new people and engaging in unconventional activities opened up avenues for personal growth and storytelling. While some activities, like proposing marriage to a stranger, we didn’t met with surprise. However, it was important to approach such actions with respect for others and awareness of local customs and laws.
‘Accessing the roof of a public building’ is restricted and should be approached with caution and we thought we couldn’t make it. ‘Taking a selfie with a bird’ on the other hand, requires patience and a bit of luck, as it involves the unpredictable nature of wildlife.
‘Pretending to be the owner of a bicycle’, while humorous, we done in good spirit and without causing harm or confusion to the actual owner. These experiences, while challenging, contribute to the tapestry of our life’s adventures, teaching us about the world and ourselves in the process. It’s these moments of spontaneity and daring that often lead to the most cherished and amusing tales.
We knew the adventure and we maintained a balance between fun and responsibility, ensuring that our actions do not adversely affect others or ourselves.
