Wetskills-Durban 2024 – Blog Day 2 –
Day 2 kicked off with a promise of new friendships and all-round fun. The teambuilding day began with team assignment and a hearty breakfast. Participants who had not arrived on day one (Sunday) missed out on the braai, but we were glad they managed to join the group. Despite the brewing storm and gloomy skies, spirits were high as the 23 participants headed out to Durban Point for the Crazy 88 challenges.
Each of the 5 teams had to find creative ways to achieve as many of these challenges as they could manage before lunch. The pictures and vlog do not do justice to the full experience – it was fulfilling despite the windy conditions. Several teams reported on their activities, and it was great to see the number of ways there are to kill a cat! Each team had a unique way of doing the same challenge. By lunch time everyone had worked up quite the appetite. Thankfully, we had the opportunity to experience authentic Durban cuisine at Copper Chimney. This was a first for most – a highlight of the day.
A visit to Darvil Wastewater Treatment Plant had been scheduled for the afternoon. Unfortunately, the weather conditions in Pietermaritzburg were not favourable. Not all was lost as this afforded us more time to bond as teams, familiarise ourselves with the cases and prepare to meet the case owners at Durban University of Technology on day 3. The day was not only a success, it was valuable lesson in adapting when plans change.
