Muscat, Oman – 20 March 2018 – SunGlacier Challenge Day 0
By Marcel Rompelman – Van Hall Larenstein / Windesheim University of Applied Science & Wetskills Foundation
We arrived a day earlier to Muscat to be able to unfreeze from the Dutch weather and get accustomed to the nearly 30 degrees in Oman.
But what to do on the day before the actual challenge will start? Of course: visit some of the countryside and go outside Muscat (because most of the SunGlacier Challenge programme will be there).
A 4×4 took us to the Wahiba Sands for some dune bashing (but first up the explanation of the Fanja Oasis). After that we went with the Dutch participants to the Wadi Bani Khaled for a good look of the functioning of valley filled with dade palms and the irrigation systems. Further down the valley there were some nice pools for a cooling swim where small fishes will nibble on your toes. A first glance on this beautiful country that is well worth visiting.
