SUMMARY:Wetskills-Romania 2024
DESCRIPTION:About The Event\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Solutions for water challenges in Wetskills-Romania 2024\nFollow us in this 7th Wetskills event in Romania! We had another immersive journey\, with 17 participants from different countries working together for water innovation! Romania has a very diverse landscape and water system\, with high mountains and the largest Delta of the European Union: Danube Delta. Romania faces challenges in water and wastewater\, in both large urban areas as well as remote rural villages\, and has a large water management experience of dealing with floods and droughts. \nAnd the country itself is inspiring and various: From the booming big Bucharest with its historic buildings and churches\, People’s Parliament and the Old City with bars and pubs\, to idyllic smaller cities and villages in epic Transylvania\, the dry Wallachia lowlands (border to Bulgaria) and Europe’s largest bio-reserve Danube Delta. \nThe Finals & Awarding Ceremony was held at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands\, with each team presenting the solution for their case with a poster and pitch. Criteria for the jury were: Creativity / Innovativeness; Feasibility / Applicability (technical); Economic Attractiveness; Social / Environmental Context; Quality of “Pitch and Poster”. Congratulations for the winning team – and the other teams – of this 75th Wetskills Water Challenge! \n \nWatch the event video! \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”64071″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” css=””][vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Practical information\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Programme Wetskills-Romania 2024 (draft) \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Terms & Conditions Wetskills-Romania 2024 \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Follow Wetskills\nFacebookXInstagramLinkedInYouTube\n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Joining this Wetskills Event – What do you get?\nA unique learning experience where you will tackle real-life water challenges with your own team! \n\nYou will develop expertise in international cooperation\, problem-solving\, cross-cultural understanding\, and interdisciplinary teamwork.\nYou will hone your networking and presentation abilities through pitch and poster\nYou will get the opportunity to connect with other international water students/young professionals.\nYou will immerse yourself in the nice cities of Brasov (TBC\, Bucharest and Constanta) exploring water-related sites and engaging with local water professionals.\nJoin parts of the 27th Symposium “Environment and Industry’ by INCD ECOIND in Constanta (incl. Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan aims to provide an impetus to the implementation of water policies addressing availability\, demand and risks\, through long-term sustainable water management plans. Engaging the youth\, implementing the youth perspective and using social media\, will enrich and improve the effectiveness of the risk- and crisis-communication. It will create more awareness of water risks to this stakeholder. Meanwhile it could lead to an increase of enthusiasm under youth to go for a water career. How can National Administration Romanian Waters (NARW) empower youth in its communication strategy? \nCase 2: Preparation for increased rainfalls\n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case owner: Van Oord Rotterdam\, and Sucursala Constanta \nOver the past few years Romania is facing a significant increase in rainfall. This was predicted and communicated through the various national weather institutes\, and also experienced by citizens. Many cities and local authorities are confronted with floodings and serious damages to infrastructure and private properties. The most significant are the short-duration high-intensity rain bursts\, that overload the drainage systems in place.  These rain bursts also vehemently expose any poor maintained structures\, that were intended to deal with these excessive rains. How can Romania (various stakeholders) better prepare for increase rainfall? \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Poster & Pitch \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”64058″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” css=””]Poster & Pitch \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”64057″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” css=””][vc_empty_space height=”64px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 3: Nature-based Solutions against drought\n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case owner: Blue Deal Romania \nRomania is increasingly facing periods of droughts due to the changing of climate. River Basin Authority Jiu needs to deal with droughts more often and aims to create solutions based on Nature-based Solutions. Nature-based Solutions leverage nature and the power of healthy ecosystems to protect people\, optimize infrastructure and safeguard a stable and bio-diverse future. These are already some ideas to create a\nbetter resistance to drought: by rehabilitation of hidden springs\, enlargement of the riverbed and polder development. How can River Basin Authority Jiu tackle drought in its basin\, by using nature-based solutions and engage the stakeholders? \nCase 4: Boost eco-tourism guesthouses in remote areas\n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case owner: National Research and Development Institute for Industrial Ecology (NRDI ECOIND) & Water Footprint Implementation \nRomania has a great potential to develop eco-friendly tourism\, particularly in rural and remote areas. This case study aims to identify the most suitable Nature-Based Solution (NBS) for wastewater treatment for an isolated touristic guesthouse. By analyzing various NBS techniques\, the optimal solution will be selected based on effectiveness\, resilience\, and adaptability to the local environmental conditions. The installation of these Nature-Based solutions could be interesting for industries with a large water footprint\, as a way to invest in (water footprint) compensation projects to bring the water system in balance. \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Poster & Pitch \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”64059″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” css=””]Poster & Pitch \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”64056″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” css=””]Event Partners\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”63530″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”55394″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”59322″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52433″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”63232″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”64061″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”63531″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57038″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”64062″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57211″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54106″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”64063″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Previous Wetskills Events in Romania\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]

DESCRIPTION:About The Event\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]For the sixth time to Romania!\nOne of the main topics of this Wetskills event was Water & Data Management. The Finals and Awarding Ceremony were organized during the IWA International Conference on Hydroinformatics (HIC 2022) in Bucharest. Attending this conference (6 July 2022) was included in the program. \nRomania has a very diverse landscape and water system\, with high mountains and the largest Delta of the European Union: Danube Delta. Romania faces challenges in water and wastewater\, in both large urban areas as well as remote rural villages\, and has a large water management experience of dealing with floods and droughts. Other main partners of this event were the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest; the Technical University for Civil Engineering in Bucharest; the Romanian Water Association; Apele Romane; and the Embassy of The Kingdom of The Netherlands. \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Watch the Movie of Wetskills Romania 2022\n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]… and the previous Wetskills edition in Romania (2021)\n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Practical information\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Overall Programme Wetskills-Romania 2022 \nLeaflet Announcement for Participants Wetskills-Romania 2022 \nTerms & Conditions Wetskills-Romania 2022 \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_button icon_pack=”font_awesome” fa_icon=”fa-facebook” icon_position=”right” target=”_self” font_weight=”” text=”Attend on Facebook” link=”https://www.facebook.com/events/2007458975975366/” icon_color=”#ffffff”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Follow Wetskills\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_icons icon_pack=”font_elegant” fa_icon=”fa-facebook” fa_size=”fa-lg” custom_size=”30″ type=”normal” rotated_shape=”no” icon_shadow=”no” inner_border=”no” back_to_top_icon=”” link=”https://www.facebook.com/Wetskills-496271977097972″ anchor_icon=”” target=”_blank” icon_color=”#0076b2″ hover_icon_color=”#43dbbd” margin=”0px 12px 0px 0px” fe_icon=”social_facebook”]     [no_icons icon_pack=”font_elegant” fa_icon=”fa-twitter” fa_size=”fa-lg” custom_size=”30″ type=”normal” rotated_shape=”no” icon_shadow=”no” inner_border=”no” back_to_top_icon=”” link=”http://twitter.com/wetskills” anchor_icon=”” target=”_blank” icon_color=”#0076b2″ hover_icon_color=”#43dbbd” margin=”0px 12px 0px 0px” fe_icon=”social_twitter”]     [no_icons icon_pack=”font_elegant” fa_icon=”fa-instagram” fa_size=”fa-lg” custom_size=”30″ type=”normal” rotated_shape=”no” icon_shadow=”no” inner_border=”no” back_to_top_icon=”” link=”https://www.instagram.com/wetskills/” anchor_icon=”” target=”_blank” icon_color=”#0076b2″ hover_icon_color=”#43dbbd” margin=”0px 12px 0px 0px” fe_icon=”social_instagram”]     [no_icons icon_pack=”font_elegant” fa_icon=”fa-twitter” fa_size=”fa-lg” custom_size=”30″ type=”normal” rotated_shape=”no” icon_shadow=”no” inner_border=”no” back_to_top_icon=”” link=”https://www.linkedin.com/groups/2949484″ anchor_icon=”” target=”_blank” icon_color=”#0076b2″ hover_icon_color=”#43dbbd” margin=”0px 12px 0px 0px” fe_icon=”social_linkedin”]     [no_icons icon_pack=”font_elegant” fa_icon=”fa-youtube-square” fe_icon=”social_youtube” fa_size=”fa-lg” custom_size=”30″ type=”normal” rotated_shape=”no” icon_shadow=”no” inner_border=”no” back_to_top_icon=”” link=”https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJmPNM9roCkR1uvgJMHqpvA” anchor_icon=”” target=”_blank” icon_color=”#0076b2″ hover_icon_color=”#43dbbd” margin=”0px 12px 0px 0px”] \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”58731\,58732\,58735\,58734″ img_size=”large” column_number=”4″ grayscale=”no” hover_icon=”none” images_space=”gallery_with_space”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Event Blogs\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_blog_list type=”boxes” image_size=”landscape” show_thumbnail=”yes” number_of_columns=”3″ overlay_icon=”1″ order_by=”date” order=”DESC” title_tag=”h5″ display_excerpt=”1″ info_position=”top” post_info_text_transform=”none” post_info_font_weight=”700″ post_info_font_style=”normal” display_category=”0″ display_date=”1″ date_place=”over_title” display_author=”0″ display_comments=”0″ display_button=”1″ icon_pack=”font_elegant” fe_icon=”arrow_right” button_icon_position=”right” number_of_posts=”3″ overlay_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” category=”Wetskills-Romania 2022″ text_length=”160″ title_size=”28″ title_color=”#0076b2″ post_info_font_size=”20″ post_info_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” post_info_font_family=”Montserrat” post_info_letter_spacing=”-0\,5″ date_size=”21″ box_info_padding=”40px 5px 5px 5px” button_text=”READ MORE” button_background_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” button_hover_background_color=”#0076b2″ button_border_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” button_hover_border_color=”#0076b2″]Event Cases\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 1: Urban river basin of the future\nCase owner: Boskalis \nCurrently river basins in and around urban areas struggle with drought\, floods and loss of water quality. The future will even be more challenging\, as climate change will lead to more heat waves and more intense rainfall\, and urban populations are expected to grow. Damboviţa river runs through Bucharest\, and is an example of a river that could be made more climate resilient to avoid or mitigate effects of climate change. How could new approaches in urban river basins create a robust system\, where biological quality is improved\, water safety is assured\, and drought can be coped with? Which (new) techniques\, policies\, stakeholders provide opportunities? \nCase 2: Inspiration guide for sustainable reservoir management\nCase owner: Blue Deal Romania project by Dutch Water Authorities & Apele Romane \nRomania has many large\, medium\, and small reservoirs spread around the country\, which are used for various purposes\, like flood risk management\, hydropower\, drinking water supply and irrigation. Due to changing weather conditions and growing pressure on multifunctionality\, the management of these reservoirs becomes more complex and integral. An ‘Inspiration Guide’ showcasing innovative and economic attractive methods of reservoir management could create more awareness on possible solutions\, for decision makers\, water managers and other stakeholders. How could such an Inspiration Guide be used for sustainable reservoir management of the Golesti dam and reservoir? \nCase 3: Redevelopment of the FlashBag\nCase owner: WetsNext programme by Wetskills Foundation \nFlashfloods in Romania are quite unpredictable and cause serious problems\, such as large economic damage and casualties. In 2019 the (flash)Flood Proof Romania Testing Facility was implemented to create and test innovative measures against these flashfloods. This testing facility in Facau\, southwest of Bucharest\, is owned by Romanian Waters and was a result of a five-year development and cooperation program between several European and Romanian partners. In previous Wetskills events the concept of a ‘FlashBag’ was created\, a temporary embankment for flash floods. Now it is time to redesign the FlashBag concept\, and start testing it in the Flood Proof Romania testing facility. \nPitch & Poster \n[vc_single_image image=”59566″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” img_link_target=”_blank” qode_css_animation=””]Pitch & Poster \n[vc_single_image image=”59567″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” img_link_target=”_blank” qode_css_animation=””]Pitch & Poster \n[vc_single_image image=”59568″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” img_link_target=”_blank” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space height=”64px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Event Partners\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”52431″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”55394″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”59322″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52433″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”57038″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52334″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57060″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57060″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”59520″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54957″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52240″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57060″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Previous Wetskills Events in Romania\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Join this Wetskills event!\n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]

We therefore strongly encourage applicants to inquire about funding opportunities to compensate the costs (university mobility funds\, travel allowance etc.). \nFor more information\, contact Alisa Doornhof (alisa.doornhof@wetskills.com) or local host Laura Stanescu (laura.stanescu@wetskills.com). \nFor other information about Wetskills and the cooperation with Romania: Johan Oost (johan.oost@wetskills.com) \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Registration deadlines\nOnly some places left for Romanian participants \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_button icon_pack=”font_awesome” fa_icon=”fa-pencil” icon_position=”right” target=”_self” font_weight=”” text=”Register” link=”/wetskills-romania-2017-registration/ ” icon_color=”#ffffff” background_color=”#43dbbd” hover_background_color=”#0076b2″ border_color=”#43dbbd” hover_border_color=”#0076b2″][vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_button icon_pack=”font_awesome” fa_icon=”fa-facebook” icon_position=”right” target=”_self” font_weight=”” text=”Attend on Facebook” link=”https://www.facebook.com/events/598803483641399/” icon_color=”#ffffff”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Practical information\n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Programme: Flyer Preliminary Programme Wetskills-Romania 2017 \n  \nFlyer: later \n  \nFor registration: see Terms & Conditions Wetskills-Romania 2017 \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Event Cases\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]The Wetskills organization of the edition is looking for Case Owners\, companies/organisations that formulate their case and support the Wetskills programme\, see Leaflet for Case Sponsors Wetskills-Romania 2017. \nFor more information\, contact Johan Oost (johan.oost@wetskills.com) or for local companies/organisations in Romania: Laura Stanescu (laura.stanescu@wetskills.com). \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 1: Climateproof Megacities \nCase owner: Hanze University of Applied Sciences \nTo raise the awareness of climate change\, climate models and other tools are used. Floodmodels and heatstressmodels can predict vulnerable areas in the urban dense areas of cities but action has to be taken by stakeholders. How can we improve the engagement of stakeholders? In this wetskills international knowledge exchange tools will be applied to evoke immediate action towards climate change. \n \nCase 2: Ecological rehabilitation of the old riverbed of Baseu river between Stefanesti-Romanesti villages \nCase owner: Rijnland Water Authority and Prut-Barlad Water Basin Administration \nThe Baseu river catchment area in the north eastern part of Romania frequently has a non-permanent flow\, which lead to major changes in the hydrological and ecological regime. This resulted in the loss of specific wetland flora and fauna habitats in the area of the Old Baseu. The team is challenged to come up with designs for the Old Baseu\, that will lead to a permanent water flow\, taking into consideration agriculture\, tourism\, drinking water access\, flood safety\, landscape and ecosystem improvement and communication and involvement of stakeholders. \nCase 3: Business-wise training \nCase owner: World Water Academy \ninformation will be provided in a later stage \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 4:  \nCase owner: \ninformation will be provided in a later stage \nCase 5:  \nCase owner:  \ninformation will be provided in a later stage \nPrevious events in Romania\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”52439\,52424\,52422\,52423″ column_number=”5″ grayscale=”no” hover_icon=”none” images_space=”gallery_with_space”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Event Partners\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”52431″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52434″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52433″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52257″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”52334″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52512″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52513″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52155″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”52244″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52184″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52155″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52155″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””]Join this Wetskills event!\n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_button icon_pack=”” target=”_self” font_weight=”” text=”Register” link=”/wetskills-romania-2017-registration/” hover_border_color=”#ffffff” border_width=”2″ border_color=”#ffffff” margin=”0% 0% 0% 40%”]
