This occurs at the national level\, especially in the Magdalena-Cauca hydrographic area\, which is the most populated area of the country. Within this area is the Bogota river. Within the basin various productive activities are developed\, which are very important for the population\, but require the use of hydric resources. In this case\, the micro basin of the Río Frio was selected with the objective of generating a strategy for the correct management of the high demand of water resources in the area and its affect to water quality. To solve the problems\, the factors affecting the water resource will be identified in order to formulate sustainable alternatives to the use of water. \nCase 2: Creating flexible water availability in times of unpredictable droughts in the Tona River\nCase owner: Corporación Autónoma Regional para la Defensa de la Meseta de Bucaramanga (Blue Deal Colombia Programme) \nThe Tona River micro-watershed is located in the northeast of Santander\, Colombia\, administered by various entities (CDMB)\, environmental authorities\, and municipalities; with a population of 6\,680 people. Therefore\, the appropriate management of water supply and demand scenarios is necessary to achieve a proper water balance. Climate changes have had a significant impact\, with the risk of water shortage for 1\,160\,272 inhabitants in Bucaramanga and its metropolitan area\, as well as the affected strategic ecosystems such as the páramos. Therefore\, the analysis of the water balance needs to consider the effects of climate variability and climate change both in the Tona River micro-watershed and in Colombia as a whole. \nCase 3: Water Footprint Compensation projects for sustainable water use\nCase owner: Water Footprint Implementation (WFI) \nIn March 2023\, Water Footprint Implementation (WFI) successfully launched Water Footprint Compensation during the United Nations Water Conference in New York. Water Footprint Compensation is a concept that implies a water user can mitigate (the negative impacts of) their water consumption by taking action to replenish\, restore or protect the water system from which the water has been abstracted. It is based on the principle of a litre for a litre. With Water Footprint Compensation\, the aim is to unlock private funding (from compensators\, companies that have a compensation request) for local projects to improve sustainable water management options in agriculture. How could the Colombian water sector create local Water Footprint Compensation projects to gain funding for becoming more sustainable in terms of water use? \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Pitch & Poster \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”63419″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” img_link_target=”_blank” css=””]Pitch & Poster \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”63420″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” img_link_target=”_blank” css=””]Pitch & Poster – winning team! \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”63418″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” img_link_target=”_blank” css=””]Event Partners\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”55406″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54109″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52334″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57211″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”57038″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54106″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”63430″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”63428″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””]

SUMMARY:Wetskills-Colombia 2018
DESCRIPTION:About The Event\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Wetskills goes Latin America for the first time!!\nYoungsters are our future… So why not let them come up with new innovative solutions to cope with actual water related problems? \nDuring the 2-week pressure cooker challenge in Cartagena\, nineteen students and young water professionals with different backgrounds\, worked together to find integral solutions for water related challenges. The eagerness and energy from youngsters is being put to the test\, to come up with the most creative and inspiring solution and pitch. \nThat is why on the 20 June\, the Colombian and Dutch youngsters started the first ever Latin American Wetskills edition in Cartagena\, Colombia. The historic port city of Cartagena is a unique location to host this event\, considering the formidable water challenges it is facing the coming decades. This edition of Wetskills is being hosted by the Universidad Technologica Bolívar and the ACODAL Congress. \nThe participants worked on four water related cases which have been brought in by several Colombian and Dutch organizations. During these two weeks they are getting intensive training on out-of-the-box thinking\, personal development and presentation skills. Their ultimate goal is to have the best solution and pitch during the ACODAL congress\, where they are judged by an international jury consisting of high level experts. \nExtreme Difficulty for the Jury\nDuring the first time Wetskills Latin America\, the jury was confronted with an extreme difficult task: select the Wetskills Water Challenge winner. The following criteria for the pitch and posters were the guidelines: Creativity / Innovativeness\, Feasibility / Applicability (technical)\, Economic Attractiveness\, Social / Environmental Context\, Presentation of “Pitch and Poster”. \nThe Wetskills jury consists of: \n\nGerardo Viña Vizcaíno\, President of the board of Directors\, ACDOAL\nJoris Jurriëns\, Deputy Head of Mission\, Netherlands Embassy in Bogota\nLaila Sukkariyyah\, Director of Global Programs\, Water Environment Federation\nKaty Lackey\, Research Manager\, The Water Research Foundation\nMauro Maza\, Associate Professor\, Universidad Technológica de Bolívar\n\nWhereas all of the jury members had a different top 4\, resulting in various winners. After almost an hour of debate\, the came to a winner…  \nWetskills Cartagena Winner\nThe winning team\, with its team name Re-Juice\, explains its idea on reducing the water footprint for a fictional fruit juice producing company in the mountains of Colombia. \nAs fruit juices are indispensable in the Colombian culture\, it is important to assure a production line that is sustainable with future climate change in sight. Mainly weather changes that cause drought pose a challenge for fruit producing companies. The solution is to guarantee a steady water supply. This is done by catching evaporated water from the air with a mist harvesting net. This fresh water can be directly used during the production process and will be added to the juice as an ingredient\, as is common in Colombia. A unique selling point is created: a juice that is 100% sustainable\, with a 100% sustainable production chain. It will be sold under the brand new name “Re-Juice” – and a message on the package of the juice will spread awareness around the water footprint. To reduce the water footprint\, the total water supply that is used during the production process must be monitored. This will be done by implementing low cost sensors at the input and output points during the production process. The measurements offer sufficient knowledge to provide a tailor made advice where the water use\, and thus the water footprint\, can be reduced during the process. \nMore information\nFor more information about Wetskills in Colombia contact either tim.van.der.staaij@wetskills.com or ralph.wesseling@wetskills.com. It is however facing severe problems\, of which the high sedimentation rate and accompanied reduction of water surface is the most urgent. We are looking to find the best solution(s) to maintain and recover the water surface of the lake\, suited to the context of the area. \nCase 2: Water conflicts over the municipal aqueduct of Supía\, Caldas\, Colombia due to water supply problems.\nCase owner: Water Authority Rijn and IJssel (in cooperation with Corpocaldas\, Manizales\, Colombia) \nThe catchment of the municipal aqueduct of Supía measures 11 km2. The aqueduct has a considerable hydrologic flow\, nevertheless\, domestic and agricultural uses need a lot of water and produce wastewater\, which is discharged sometimes without treatment. As a consequence\, hydrologic pressure becomes prominent in times of shortage or excess. We are looking for a series of alternatives for the distribution of the hydrologic resource under conditions of hydrologic pressures and temporary drought. \nFinal poster and pitch \n[vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”54424″][vc_empty_space height=”8px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Final poster and pitch \n[vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”54425″][vc_empty_space height=”8px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 3: A climate test for climate policy performance by regional water authorities\nCase owner: Dutch Water Authorities – Blue Deal office \nThe Blue Deal is a Dutch programme to develop better governance on regional water management worldwide. Climate (change) receives extra attention within this program. A new ‘climate test’ is aimed to clarify how the Blue Deal program could best support the attention for climate change within the partnerships with regional water authorities all around the world. How can such climate test show the national climate policy (adaptation and mitigation) and its practical elaboration of regional water management\, including both opportunities and obstacles? \nCase 4: Reducing the Water Footprint for Colombian’s natural juices\nCase owner: Corporación Ambiental Empresarial (CAEM) of the Chamber of Commerce in Bogotá and Water Footprint Implementation \nThe water footprint is one of the families of environmental footprints that help us understand how our production and consumption choices are affecting natural resources. A manufacturing company for natural juices has its plantations of apple and pears in template weather\, and for blackberry and tomato tree in a cold weather. Once they collect the crop\, they process the fruit and made the juices on their installations. How can the water footprint be used to get and maintain a sustainable future for this company? \nFinal poster and pitch \n[vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”54426″][vc_empty_space height=”8px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Final poster and pitch \n[vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”54427″][vc_empty_space height=”8px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Pictures of the event\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”54264\,54206\,54205\,54265\,54276″ column_number=”5″ grayscale=”no” hover_icon=”none” images_space=”gallery_with_space”]Event Partners\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”54109″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”55406″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52245″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52257″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”52239″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54108″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52240″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57060″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”54106″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57091″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57060″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52334″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””]Event Blogs\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_blog_list type=”boxes” image_size=”landscape” show_thumbnail=”yes” number_of_columns=”3″ overlay_icon=”1″ order_by=”date” order=”DESC” title_tag=”h5″ display_excerpt=”1″ info_position=”top” post_info_text_transform=”none” post_info_font_weight=”700″ post_info_font_style=”normal” display_category=”0″ display_date=”1″ date_place=”over_title” display_author=”0″ display_comments=”0″ display_button=”1″ icon_pack=”font_elegant” fe_icon=”arrow_right” button_icon_position=”right” vertical_align_text=”middle” date_position=”in_icon” border_around_item=”no” separator=”yes” display_circle_button=”1″ enable_circle_button_shaddow=”1″ number_of_posts=”3″ overlay_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” text_length=”133″ post_info_color=”#43dbbd” post_info_font_family=”Montserrat” post_info_letter_spacing=”-0.5″ date_size=”21″ button_text=”READ MORE” box_info_padding=”40px 5px 5px 5px” post_info_font_size=”20″ title_size=”28″ title_color=”#0076b2″ button_color=”#ffffff” button_hover_color=”#ffffff” button_background_color=”#43dbbd” button_hover_background_color=”#0076b2″ button_border_color=”#43dbbd” button_hover_border_color=”#0076b2″ category=”wetskills-colombia-2018″][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”53504\,53502\,53501\,53500″ column_number=”5″ grayscale=”no” hover_icon=”none” images_space=”gallery_with_space”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]
