Upgrading drinking water quality to meet the evolving standards requires huge investments. Traditionally, large scale centralized water treatment is applied, followed by an expansive distribution network. To improve water quality at the consumer’s tap both the water treatment as well as the distribution network needs to be addressed.
New technologies enable water companies to apply satellite treatment to upgrade the distributed water locally. These satellite systems can be monitored centrally to ensure safety, reliability and availability, thus providing drinking water that meets the most stringent requirements.
Up to now, most projects introducing a second water quality have failed. However, using current treatment and monitoring technology, satellite treatment may prove an attractive alternative for full redesign or renovation of drinking water plants and distribution networks.
