SUMMARY:Wetskills-Romania 2024
DESCRIPTION:About The Event\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Solutions for water challenges in Wetskills-Romania 2024\nFollow us in this 7th Wetskills event in Romania! We had another immersive journey\, with 17 participants from different countries working together for water innovation! Romania has a very diverse landscape and water system\, with high mountains and the largest Delta of the European Union: Danube Delta. Romania faces challenges in water and wastewater\, in both large urban areas as well as remote rural villages\, and has a large water management experience of dealing with floods and droughts. \nAnd the country itself is inspiring and various: From the booming big Bucharest with its historic buildings and churches\, People’s Parliament and the Old City with bars and pubs\, to idyllic smaller cities and villages in epic Transylvania\, the dry Wallachia lowlands (border to Bulgaria) and Europe’s largest bio-reserve Danube Delta. \nThe Finals & Awarding Ceremony was held at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands\, with each team presenting the solution for their case with a poster and pitch. Criteria for the jury were: Creativity / Innovativeness; Feasibility / Applicability (technical); Economic Attractiveness; Social / Environmental Context; Quality of “Pitch and Poster”. Congratulations for the winning team – and the other teams – of this 75th Wetskills Water Challenge! \n \nWatch the event video! \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”64071″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” css=””][vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Practical information\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Programme Wetskills-Romania 2024 (draft) \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Terms & Conditions Wetskills-Romania 2024 \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Follow Wetskills\nFacebookXInstagramLinkedInYouTube\n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Joining this Wetskills Event – What do you get?\nA unique learning experience where you will tackle real-life water challenges with your own team! \n\nYou will develop expertise in international cooperation\, problem-solving\, cross-cultural understanding\, and interdisciplinary teamwork.\nYou will hone your networking and presentation abilities through pitch and poster\nYou will get the opportunity to connect with other international water students/young professionals.\nYou will immerse yourself in the nice cities of Brasov (TBC\, Bucharest and Constanta) exploring water-related sites and engaging with local water professionals.\nJoin parts of the 27th Symposium “Environment and Industry’ by INCD ECOIND in Constanta (incl. Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan aims to provide an impetus to the implementation of water policies addressing availability\, demand and risks\, through long-term sustainable water management plans. Engaging the youth\, implementing the youth perspective and using social media\, will enrich and improve the effectiveness of the risk- and crisis-communication. It will create more awareness of water risks to this stakeholder. Meanwhile it could lead to an increase of enthusiasm under youth to go for a water career. How can National Administration Romanian Waters (NARW) empower youth in its communication strategy? \nCase 2: Preparation for increased rainfalls\n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case owner: Van Oord Rotterdam\, and Sucursala Constanta \nOver the past few years Romania is facing a significant increase in rainfall. This was predicted and communicated through the various national weather institutes\, and also experienced by citizens. Many cities and local authorities are confronted with floodings and serious damages to infrastructure and private properties. The most significant are the short-duration high-intensity rain bursts\, that overload the drainage systems in place.  These rain bursts also vehemently expose any poor maintained structures\, that were intended to deal with these excessive rains. How can Romania (various stakeholders) better prepare for increase rainfall? \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Poster & Pitch \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”64058″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” css=””]Poster & Pitch \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”64057″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” css=””][vc_empty_space height=”64px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 3: Nature-based Solutions against drought\n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case owner: Blue Deal Romania \nRomania is increasingly facing periods of droughts due to the changing of climate. River Basin Authority Jiu needs to deal with droughts more often and aims to create solutions based on Nature-based Solutions. Nature-based Solutions leverage nature and the power of healthy ecosystems to protect people\, optimize infrastructure and safeguard a stable and bio-diverse future. These are already some ideas to create a\nbetter resistance to drought: by rehabilitation of hidden springs\, enlargement of the riverbed and polder development. How can River Basin Authority Jiu tackle drought in its basin\, by using nature-based solutions and engage the stakeholders? \nCase 4: Boost eco-tourism guesthouses in remote areas\n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case owner: National Research and Development Institute for Industrial Ecology (NRDI ECOIND) & Water Footprint Implementation \nRomania has a great potential to develop eco-friendly tourism\, particularly in rural and remote areas. This case study aims to identify the most suitable Nature-Based Solution (NBS) for wastewater treatment for an isolated touristic guesthouse. By analyzing various NBS techniques\, the optimal solution will be selected based on effectiveness\, resilience\, and adaptability to the local environmental conditions. The installation of these Nature-Based solutions could be interesting for industries with a large water footprint\, as a way to invest in (water footprint) compensation projects to bring the water system in balance. \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Poster & Pitch \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”64059″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” css=””]Poster & Pitch \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”64056″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” css=””]Event Partners\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”63530″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”55394″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”59322″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52433″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”63232″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”64061″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”63531″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57038″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”64062″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57211″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54106″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”64063″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Previous Wetskills Events in Romania\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]
