SUMMARY:Wetskills-Indonesia 2025
DESCRIPTION:About The Event\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Follow our Wetskills event in Semarang\, Indonesia!!\nSemarang\, a coastal city in Indonesia\, is facing various water challenges that threaten its development and resilience. Issues such as land subsidence\, frequent flooding and problems with wastewater management\, are becoming more severe due to rapid urbanization and climate change. These problems not only affect infrastructure and the environment\, but also the quality of life for residents. \nFor this event in Semarang\, Wetskills was bringing together 24 young talents from around the world\, to collaborate and co-create innovative solutions. They tackled real-life case studies related to coastal flooding\, groundwater depletion\, non-revenue water\, wastewater reuse\, and flood basin planning. The participants combined technical insights with out-of-the-box thinking\, supported by local field visits and mentorship from experts. \nThe Wetskills Finals and Awarding Ceremony were integrated in the Water Mission from The Netherlands to Indonesia in Semarang on 18 June 2025. The finals event showcased four creative team pitches\, presented in a dynamic and energetic setting. Each team had only two minutes to convince the expert jury of their solution’s value\, feasibility\, and innovation. Ms. Meike van Ginneken\, the Netherlands’ Special Envoy for Water announced Team 4 to be the winning team. They came up with an innovative solution for Offsetting Corporate Water use through Water Footprint Compensation in Semarang\, a case formulated by PDAM Semarang\, VEI\, WaterWorx and Water Footprint Implementation. \nWatch the video!\n \nPicture: Banger Polder in Semarang \n \nInformation\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Programme Wetskills-Indonesia 2025 (draft) \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Terms & Conditions Wetskills-Indonesia 2025 \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Follow Wetskills\nFacebookXInstagramLinkedInYouTube\nJoining this Wetskills Event – What do you get?\nA unique learning experience where you will tackle real-life water challenges with your own team! \n\nYou will develop expertise in international cooperation\, problem-solving\, cross-cultural understanding\, and interdisciplinary teamwork.\nYou will hone your networking and presentation abilities through pitch and poster\nYou will get the opportunity to connect with other international water students/young professionals.\nYou will immerse yourself in the vibrant coastal city of Semarang in Central Java\, exploring water-related sites and engaging with local water professionals.\nYou will learn and deepen your understanding of the Indonesian water sector\, gaining insights into key stakeholders\, organizations\, contemporary issues\, and existing business opportunities.\nUpon program completion\, receive a certificate of participation\, officially joining the ranks of over 1400 Wetskills Alumni.\n\nMore information\nFor additional information regarding participation\, the programme and other details\, please contact Isabel van Klink\, isabel.van.klink@wetskills.com or Johan Oost\, johan.oost@wetskills.com. \nSemarang in Central Java: Water & Culture\n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”54061\,54062\,54064\,54058\,54060″ column_number=”5″ grayscale=”no” hover_icon=”none” images_space=”gallery_with_space”]Event Blogs\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]	\n \n A Day of Growth\, Groove\, and Great IdeasBlogs\, Wetskills-Indonesia 202511 months agoWetskills-Indonesia 2025 – blog 4 – Today’s Wetskills journey was a perfect mix of learning and fun. To mitigate these problems the local governments are undertaking many (technical) measures. As part of the Blue Deal Indonesia programme (a partnership with three Indonesian local governments and the Dutch Water Authorities) we aim the inhabitants to support this and contribute to these developments themselves. By raising awareness and engaging the community we can bind our forces and make our areas more resilient to their living environment and climate change. Raising awareness is not enough\, how can local governments really engage the community? \nCase 2: Building with Nature – Constructing natural foreshores for Semarang\n[vc_empty_space height=”8px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case owner: Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors B.V. \n\nCoastal erosion\, land subsidence and floodings threaten northern Java\, where the Semarang toll road projects are presented as a solution offering both new transport links and essential coastal protection. As part of a broader Building with Nature vision\, natural foreshores have been proposed in addition to these projects to support mangrove growth\, aquaculture\, and marine habitats. While promising in theory\, the actual conditions on site might complicate the constructability of this nature-based solution. The local environmental and socioeconomic context will eventually determine the potential risks and impacts that construction needs to consider and therewith determine the final range of opportunities for value creation. How can natural foreshores be effectively constructed in line with the Building with Nature ambition\, considering the site-specific environmental and socioeconomic circumstances in Semarang? \n\n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 3: Revitalisation of Semarang River\n\n[vc_empty_space height=”8px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case owner: Semarang Old City Heritage \nAccording to history\, Semarang River is the beginning of the development of Semarang city. Admiral Cheng Ho anchored in Dong Watu (Sam Po Kong) passed through Semarang River. When the Dutch VOC used sea transportation to go to the centre of Trade\, Pasar Johar through Semarang River. For that it is very important for us to revitalize Semarang River as a river heritage and as a tourist area integrated with the history of the old city and Semarang Port. How could we create more awareness about the significance of the History of Semarang River? How can the City of Semarang integrate the concept and implementation of Semarang River Revitalisation as a tourist area with Semarang Old City and Port?\nCase 4: Offsetting Corporate Water Use through Water Footprint Compensation in Semarang\n[vc_empty_space height=”8px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case owner: PDAM Semarang\, WaterWorx and Water Footprint Implementation \n\nThe Water Footprint Compensation (WFC) framework offers companies a practical and credible way to offset their water use while contributing to sustainable water management. Through this framework\, companies can invest in Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction projects in Semarang\, Indonesia\, implemented in partnership with the local utility PDAM and the WaterWorX programme. These projects focus on identifying and repairing leaks and inefficiencies in the water supply system\, leading to significant reductions in water losses and improved available of water resources. By financing these varied water savings\, companies can: 1. Offset their water footprint with traceable and measurable results\, 2. Fulfil ESG and CSRD reporting obligations with credible data\, 3. Demonstrate leadership in corporate water stewardship and 4. Contribute to improved water security and resilience in local communities. How can the case owners find interested companies to start water compensating by investing in NRW projects in Semarang? \n\n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Event Partners\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”54042″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54040″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54043″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57038″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”57211″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”64063″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54106″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”63234″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”54101″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”60769″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”57060″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”60132″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Previous Wetskills events\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]

PDAM Semarang is committed to expanding and improving its water supply infrastructure to ensure comprehensive city coverage\, aiming to transition residents from groundwater to more sustainable PDAM water options. This initiative is part of PDAM Tirta Moedal’s vision to deliver 4K aspects (Quality\, Quantity\, Continuity\, and Affordability) in areas with established networks. What are the main challenges for PDAM? and how can they effectively and innovatively manage this transition for the community? with the aim of reducing private groundwater use and thereby decrease land subsidence. \nCase 2: Opportunities for Water Footprint Compensation \nCase owner: FoxallMunro \n\nGlobal water resources are under pressure. Regulatory and restorative actions on the local or watershed level are needed to prevent further pressure. To respond to this need we intend to build upon the link between water consumption for production to water compensation activities. As a progression from the 2023 Cape Town pilot water compensation project to determine the feasibility of community capacity building in water management as a water footprint compensation activity\, and the subsequent publishing of the water footprint compensation framework at the NY UN Water Summit\, this case intends to be the next step in building up a portfolio of global water compensation projects for organisations to invest in\, once they have calculated\, addressed and reduced their footprints as much as possible. \n\nCase 3: Practising Eco Theology in Pesantren through Water and Waste Management \nCase owners: Percik & Universitas Sebelas Maret \nIslam contributes significantly to environmental conservation through its teachings and principles. Despite this\, many Islamic communities\, especially in Indonesia\, face challenges with waste generation and water usage. Each person wastes 0.68 kg of waste daily\, and Muslims require 1.5 liters of water for prayer preparation. This case seeks to delve into these challenges\, particularly in Islamic institutions like boarding schools\, and understand leaders’ perspectives on water availability. The objective is to address current environmental issues and to find solutions while considering practical aspects of eco-theology. \nPrevious Wetskills events\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”901\,51988\,53474\,53618\,53747″ column_number=”5″ grayscale=”no” hover_icon=”none” images_space=”gallery_with_space”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Event Partners\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”54042″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54040″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”56309″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”63207″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”63209″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54043″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”63206″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52373″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”54106″ img_size=”220×220″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”63210″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” css=”” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52334″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”57038″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54101″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””]
