DESCRIPTION:About The Event\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Third Wetskills in Oman successfully wrapped-up \nTeam Wave Integration won the third Wetskills Water Challenge in Oman. The team came up with a creative solution to kick-start a sustainable and self-supportive local Water Footprint Network in Oman and combining experience jobs for talented female graduates. The case was formulated by a consortium of Water Footprint Implementation\, Oman Water Society\, Water Footprint Network and Sultan Qaboos University. These organizations aim to establish a local network for awareness and capacity development including the implementation of the Water Footprint concept. Maartje Wadman\, Junior Soil Advisor of Antea Group in The Netherlands\, presenter of the pitch for the winning team: “Really would like to thank everyone who made this Wetskills edition still an unforgettable experience. I am sure that I will come back to Oman and that I will join another Wetskills edition.” \nCoronavirus \nThe Coronavirus (COVID-19) affected the Wetskills programme in Oman. Despite all adaptive measures\, the shortening of 2 days and the postpone of the 2nd International conference on Water Resources in Arid Areas where the Finals & Awarding Ceremony were planned\, the programme went well\, the participants were satisfied\, and the results are promising. The Wetskills supervsiors Marcel Rompelman and Ahmed Al-Busaidi (SQU) managed to complete a quality programme in Muscat. \nRead more: Press-release Wetskills-Oman 2020 \nFore more information: Johan Oost\, johan.oost@wetskills.com and/or Ahmed Al-Busaidi\, ahmed99@squ.edu.om. \n— \nThe 2020 central theme of Wetskills Events\, celebrating 10 years of Wetskills:\n‘VALUING FUTURE WATER LEADERS SHAKING THE WATER-ENERGY-FOOD COCKTAIL WITH THEIR INCLUSIVE & CATALYTIC CAPACITY’. \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Event info\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Programme Wetskills-Oman 2020 \nTerms & Conditions Wetskills-Oman 2020 \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_button icon_pack=”font_awesome” fa_icon=”fa-facebook” icon_position=”right” target=”_self” font_weight=”” text=”Attend on Facebook” link=”https://www.facebook.com/events/2190960907875521/” icon_color=”#ffffff”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Movie Wetskills-Oman 2019 \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Follow Wetskills\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_icons icon_pack=”font_elegant” fa_icon=”fa-facebook” fa_size=”fa-lg” custom_size=”30″ type=”normal” rotated_shape=”no” icon_shadow=”no” inner_border=”no” back_to_top_icon=”” link=”https://www.facebook.com/Wetskills-496271977097972″ anchor_icon=”” target=”_blank” icon_color=”#0076b2″ hover_icon_color=”#43dbbd” margin=”0px 12px 0px 0px” fe_icon=”social_facebook”]     [no_icons icon_pack=”font_elegant” fa_icon=”fa-twitter” fa_size=”fa-lg” custom_size=”30″ type=”normal” rotated_shape=”no” icon_shadow=”no” inner_border=”no” back_to_top_icon=”” link=”http://twitter.com/wetskills” anchor_icon=”” target=”_blank” icon_color=”#0076b2″ hover_icon_color=”#43dbbd” margin=”0px 12px 0px 0px” fe_icon=”social_twitter”]     [no_icons icon_pack=”font_elegant” fa_icon=”fa-instagram” fa_size=”fa-lg” custom_size=”30″ type=”normal” rotated_shape=”no” icon_shadow=”no” inner_border=”no” back_to_top_icon=”” link=”https://www.instagram.com/wetskills/” anchor_icon=”” target=”_blank” icon_color=”#0076b2″ hover_icon_color=”#43dbbd” margin=”0px 12px 0px 0px” fe_icon=”social_instagram”]     [no_icons icon_pack=”font_elegant” fa_icon=”fa-twitter” fa_size=”fa-lg” custom_size=”30″ type=”normal” rotated_shape=”no” icon_shadow=”no” inner_border=”no” back_to_top_icon=”” link=”https://www.linkedin.com/groups/2949484″ anchor_icon=”” target=”_blank” icon_color=”#0076b2″ hover_icon_color=”#43dbbd” margin=”0px 12px 0px 0px” fe_icon=”social_linkedin”]     [no_icons icon_pack=”font_elegant” fa_icon=”fa-youtube-square” fe_icon=”social_youtube” fa_size=”fa-lg” custom_size=”30″ type=”normal” rotated_shape=”no” icon_shadow=”no” inner_border=”no” back_to_top_icon=”” link=”https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJmPNM9roCkR1uvgJMHqpvA” anchor_icon=”” target=”_blank” icon_color=”#0076b2″ hover_icon_color=”#43dbbd” margin=”0px 12px 0px 0px”] \nOverview programme\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]The Finals\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Field visits to Haya Water and Nizwa\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”57289\,57290\,57291\,57292″ img_size=”medium” column_number=”4″ grayscale=”no” hover_icon=”none” images_space=”gallery_with_space”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”57293\,57294\,57296\,57297″ img_size=”medium” column_number=”4″ grayscale=”no” hover_icon=”none” images_space=”gallery_with_space”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”57299\,57303\,57300\,57301″ img_size=”medium” column_number=”4″ grayscale=”no” hover_icon=”none” images_space=”gallery_with_space”]Event Cases\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 1: Turn Energy to Water and back. Creating a cross-sectoral communication\nCase owner: Water Footprint Implementation \nOman is a water-scarce country\, and energy-rich when looking at the large (fossil) energy resources. Energy in Oman is rather cheap and the main catalyst for its economy. Oman is also facing the world’s sustainability challenge of lowering the use of fossil energy and the transition to alternative energy production. But are stakeholders in Oman aware that this also affects the use of its valuable and scarce water? Various Ministries are invloved\, e.g. Water\, Energy\, but also Internal affairs and Economy. Team challenge: How could the determination of the Water Footprint of Oman’s energy-mix\, and the Carbon Footprint of Oman’s water use\, contribute to cross-sectoral communication? \nCase 2: Visual Problem Appraisal for Integrated Water Management in Oman\nCase owner: Van Hall Larenstein\n \nTo achieve the ambitions of the National Water Resource Master Plan\, it is envisioned that young Omani need to learn about Water management issues in their country. Involved institutions are exploring innovative learning strategies with a potential to stimulate water management knowledge and expertise with an interdisciplinary focus. In the search for a learning strategy that caters for an action-research orientation on water management\, Wetskills Oman is exploring the potential of a series of film-based interviews for distance learning (Visual Problem Appraisal). \nCase 3: Impact of NON-domestic wastewater\nCase owner: Haya Water \nDischarging Non-Domestic Wastewater to the sewerage system is an operational\, environmental and safety risk. This can also cause odours\, dangerous gases\, accelerated corrosion\, and sewer network blockage. It can affect the sewage treatment processes\, and adversely impact bio-solids and effluent quality. Moreover\, discharging Non-Domestic Wastewater to the sewer poses a health and safety risk to personnel working in and around the sewerage system\, due to substances in the industrial wastewater or their reactions with other substances. This Case study aims to reduce the impact\, and protect Haya Water assets from harmful disposal of Non-Domestic Wastewater into Haya Water sewage network and STP’s. \nFinal Pitch & Poster \n[vc_empty_space height=”8 px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”57382″][vc_empty_space height=”16 px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Final Pitch & Poster \n[vc_empty_space height=”8 px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”57383″][vc_empty_space height=”16 px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Final Pitch & Poster \n[vc_empty_space height=”8 px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”57384″][vc_empty_space height=”16 px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 4: Chances for Agroforestry in Oman using treated effluent\nCase owner: Sultan Qaboos University\, department of Soil Sciences\n \nOver 15 years ago a country study was done to investigate the possibilities of forests in Oman. The study showed it is critical to integrate planted trees and forests in more holistic approaches: Agroforestry. That means\, to provide environmental services\, stimulate biodiversity benefits\, and meet people’s short and long-term needs. The creation of demonstration sites was suggested. What are the chances for Agroforestry in Oman? And in what way could treated effluent be used in Agroforestry? \nCase 5: Sustainable embedding of the Water Footprint in Oman\nCase owners: Sultan Qaboos University\, Water Footprint Implementation\, Oman Water Society & Water Footprint Network\n \nWater Footprint has the potential to become a leading concept for quantifying freshwater use in Oman. The Water Footprint Network (WFN) established worldwide several hubs\, each with a local network focusing on research\, awareness raising and capacity building about the Water Footprint concept. In 2019\, WFN and the Sultan Qaboos University discussed on the possibilities of creating a Water Footprint Hub in Oman\, in collaboration with other partners. This hub should also focus on the implementation of projects to bring the Water Footprint Theory into practice in Oman. How could the Case Owners set-up a sustainable and self-supportive Water Footprint Hub in Oman? \nFinal Pitch & Poster \n[vc_empty_space height=”8 px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”57385″][vc_empty_space height=”16 px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Final Pitch & Poster \n[vc_empty_space height=”8 px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”57386″][vc_empty_space height=”16 px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Event Partners\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”53049″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”53546″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”53806″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52334″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”55015″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54106″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”53810″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”55011″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”56621″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52257″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52245″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52243″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””]Event Blogs\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_blog_list type=”boxes” image_size=”landscape” show_thumbnail=”yes” number_of_columns=”4″ overlay_icon=”1″ order_by=”date” order=”DESC” title_tag=”h5″ display_excerpt=”1″ info_position=”top” post_info_text_transform=”none” post_info_font_weight=”700″ post_info_font_style=”normal” display_category=”0″ display_date=”1″ date_place=”over_title” display_author=”0″ display_comments=”0″ display_button=”1″ icon_pack=”font_elegant” fe_icon=”arrow_right” button_icon_position=”right” number_of_posts=”9″ overlay_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” category=”wetskills-oman-2020″ text_length=”160″ title_size=”28″ title_color=”#0076b2″ post_info_font_size=”20″ post_info_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” post_info_font_family=”Montserrat” post_info_letter_spacing=”-0\,5″ date_size=”21″ box_info_padding=”40px 5px 5px 5px” button_text=”READ MORE” button_background_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” button_hover_background_color=”#0076b2″ button_border_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” button_hover_border_color=”#0076b2″]

However\, both countries are becoming more vulnerable to droughts. The Great Hungarian Plain is facing severe drought challenges and especially agriculture is under pressure. An ‘Inspiration Guide’ should showcase innovative and economic attractive methods of agriculture and technical solutions for wetland and irrigation restauration\, and generate more awareness among all stakeholders. Behind the scenes of the water streaming from the tap\, the river carrying its ships\, and the rainwater disappearing into the sewage\, there is an active network of water managers to ensure clean\, sufficient and safe water. Raising awareness about our most precious resource is the first step in ensuring its availability for future generations. Hungary as one of the members of the UN High Level Water Panel would like to contribute to improving the Value of Water. How can we improve communication the ‘Value of Water’ by involving the next generation and inter-connecting generations in Hungary? \nFinal Poster \n\nTeam 2: WET – Water Education and Training\n\n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”56607″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””]Case 3: Dreaming the Water Resource and Recovery Facility of 2030 \nCase owner: Budapest University of Technology and Economics \nBoth water scarcity and resource limitations are great challenges of the 21st century. Innovations focusing only on treating wastewater and producing high quality drinking water cost-effectively are not enough any more for really ‘sustainable’ water management. Paradigm shift is necessary to transform “wastewater” to “used-water” which may be useful for further use and valorisation\, as well as “wastewater treatment” to “water and resource recovery”. This case addresses the design of a future Water Resource and Recovery Facility (WRRF) involving as many important aspects of sustainable water and resource management as possible\, i.e. industry\, agriculture-irrigation\, public transport\, smart urban solutions\, sludge management\, risk assessment (e.g.\, micropollutants\, antibiotic resistance\, etc.). SUMMARY:Wetskills-Romania 2019
DESCRIPTION:About The Event\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Wetskills was for the fourth time in Romania\nRomania has a very diverse landscape and water system\, with high mountains and the largest Delta of the European Union: Danube Delta. Romania faces challenges in water and wastewater\, in both large urban areas as well as remote rural villages\, and has a large water management experience of dealing with floods and droughts. \nAnd the country itself is inspiring and various: From the booming big Bucharest with its historic buildings and churches\, immens large People’s Parliament and the Old City with bars\, pubs as heart of the City to idillic smaller cities and villages in epic Transylvania and more low and dry Wallachia (border to Bulgaria) and the Europe’s largest bioreserve Danube Delta. \nWetskills-Romania 2019 was already the fourth one in Romania\, and was aligned to the Official Opening of the Flood Proof Romania Polder (in Facau\, 40 minutes southwest of Bucharest)\, a testing facility similar to the Flood Proof Holland in Delft. \nThe 2019 event’s theme was about ‘testing and implementing smart water management innovations‘\, with 3 cases: ‘Innovative Integrated Water Resource Management Plans taking into account drought and climate change’\, a ‘Market scan for temporary embankments to be used during floods’ and a plan for ‘Keeping Buzau river waste free & attractive for eco-tourism’. \nThe final presentations were organized at the Brigaid Conference (13 June 2019) and the winning team was announced during the Opening of the Flood Proof Romania Polder. \nThis fourth Wetskills edition in Romania was hosted by the Technical University for Civil Engineering in Bucharest. The event was partnered by Politehnica University of Bucharest\, Apele Romane\, Brigaid (H2020) project\, Romanian Water Association\, Agriculture University of Bucharest and the Embassy of The Kingdom of The Netherlands. \nImages of the construction site of the Flood proof Polder Romania \n[vc_single_image image=”54944″ img_size=”” style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54942″ img_size=”” style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Video of Wetskills-Romania 2019\n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Practical information\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Programme Wetskills-Romania 2019 \nTerms & Conditions Wetskills-Romania 2019 \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_button icon_pack=”font_awesome” fa_icon=”fa-facebook” icon_position=”right” target=”_self” font_weight=”” text=”Attend on Facebook” link=”https://www.facebook.com/events/2007458975975366/” icon_color=”#ffffff”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Wetskills in general\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Wetskills leaflet & track record \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”55539\,55540\,55541\,55542\,55543″ column_number=”5″ grayscale=”no” hover_icon=”none” images_space=”gallery_with_space”]Event Cases 2019\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 1: Blue Deal drought Craiova Plain Romania inception\nCase owner: BlueDeal – Dutch Water Authorities & WBA Jiu \nRomania and The Netherlands are cooperating under the BlueDeal programme\, like in the Craiova Plain in southwestern part of Romania\, were people are facing severe drought challenges. Especially the agriculture is under pressure. An ‘Inspiration Guide’ could show innovative and economically attractive methods of agriculture\, and technical solutions of wetland- and irrigation-restauration\, to create more awareness and offer practical solutions for all stakeholders. Peak floods cause significant damages to lives\, property\, infrastructure and lands. At the end of the summer however\, agriculture often suffers from water shortages. Romanian government (Apele Romane) is working on strategies to improve the protection level against floods. In the Dutch Flood Proof Polder several innovative entrepreneurs are testing and developing products for temporary embankments. These products aim to offer higher protection\, and be easier to install and remove\, than the traditional sand bags. However the benefits\, these products are not yet applied in Romania: how to reach this? \nFinal poster \n\nPoster Team 2 – Be safe\, Be dry – Technologies for flood protection\n\n[vc_empty_space height=”32x” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”55697″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””]Case 3: Keeping Buzau river waste free & natural\nCase owner: Nehiou Municipality and Green Adventure \nThe Nehoiu area has several free-flowing rivers that have great potential for developing eco-tourism and thereby provide a stable economy. However\, the river faces several threats like plastic pollution and hydropower development. In addition\, logging is a threat to nature and increases erosion on a big scale. How can these threats be reduced and how can chances be magnified? \nFinal poster \n\nPoster Team 3 – Solution to plastic pollution\n\n[vc_empty_space height=”32x” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”55698″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Event Partners 2019\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”52434″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52431″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52257″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52433″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”54957″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54956″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”53102″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52155″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”52334″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”54568″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52155″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52155″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Event Blogs\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_blog_list type=”boxes” image_size=”landscape” show_thumbnail=”yes” number_of_columns=”4″ overlay_icon=”1″ order_by=”date” order=”DESC” title_tag=”h5″ display_excerpt=”1″ info_position=”top” post_info_text_transform=”none” post_info_font_weight=”700″ post_info_font_style=”normal” display_category=”0″ display_date=”1″ date_place=”over_title” display_author=”0″ display_comments=”0″ display_button=”1″ icon_pack=”font_elegant” fe_icon=”arrow_right” button_icon_position=”right” number_of_posts=”7″ overlay_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” category=”wetskills-romania-2019″ text_length=”185″ title_size=”28″ title_color=”#0076b2″ post_info_font_size=”20″ post_info_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” post_info_font_family=”Montserrat” post_info_letter_spacing=”-0\,5″ date_size=”21″ box_info_padding=”40px 5px 5px 5px” button_text=”READ MORE” button_background_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” button_hover_background_color=”#0076b2″ button_border_color=”rgba(0\,221\,207\,0.59)” button_hover_border_color=”#0076b2″][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Previous Wetskills Events in Romania\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]

And how can we learn from self sufficient islands\, considering a city as an island? A previous Wetskills team in South Korea came up with the ‘Water Wide Web’\, building an energy network where you can store energy on different levels close to households. Waternet wants the next team to work out this idea in more detail and come up with logical solutions we can really implement in the near future. \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 3: Wastewater reuse for agriculture \nCase owner: Water Application Center and Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences \nIn the Netherlands\, almost all WWTP effluents are discharched onto surface water bodies like canals and rivers. As a result of climate change\, agriculture will be confronted more and more with yield losses due to drought. The use of alternative freshwater sources\, such as treated wastewater from industries and sewage treatment plants\, can reduce drought damage. One interesting opportunity may be to combine wastewater (post)treatment and agriculture (crops / biomass growth). Under what conditions and on which scale could the reuse of (treated) wastewater in agriculture be beneficial? \nCase 4: BioBizzHub for energizing start-ups to scale up their business  \nCase owner: Paques \nWaterCampus Leeuwarden is an important driver for new business in the water technology sector\, and has facilitated the start of many new companies in the past 15 years. A crucial step for these new companies is to “scale up” and “go to market”. The new BioBizzHub is set-up for this purpose. Here\, startups can benefit from dedicated test and office facilities and the engineering and market experience of Paques. How can BioBizzHub find and attract companies from outside the Netherlands to join this initiative and benefit from the BioBizzHub. \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]The Wetskills organization is looking for Case Owners; companies\, knowledge institutes and organisations that formulate their case and support this Wetskills programme and formulate a case. It is envisaged to build a detention basin in coastal plain areas\, which connects with open seas under normal conditions. When a strong rainfall is predicted and there is low tide level at open seas\, the sluice gate is closed to keep a low water level in the detention basin so that floods can be discharged into the detention basin when the strong rain comes\, minimizing the waterlogging possibility. At the same time\, the detention basin would form a buffer zone to enhance the capability against typhoon storm surges. \nCase 2: (Pour) water versus soil energy\nCase owner: Westland Municipality \nIn a greenhouse horticulture municipality\, such as Westland Municipality \, both energy management and the availability of good irrigation water are essential for production of the crops. The subsurface is a source and buffer that are interesting and used for both renewable energy (with cold-heat storage) and irrigation water. But this leads to a conflict between both due to the limited capacity in aquifers. How can we use the existing aquifere capacity for both renewable energy and irrigation water in an harmonious way? \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 3: Adapting to climate change in Overijssel\nCase owner: Province Overijssel \nProvince Overijssel is working on becoming water robust and climate resilient in 2050. This starts by identifying the areas with the highest risk and by engaging in dialogue with the stakeholders. The challenge is to connect themes such as water\, nature\, agriculture\, energy\, mobility and spatial development in the approach. Working together with municipalities\, waterboards and other stakeholders is essential. How do we identify the biggest bottlenecks and work together in “good governance” to tackle them? \nCase 4: Integrated and standardized management platform for whole life cycle\nCase owner: Zhejiang yugong information technology co.\, ltd \n\n\n\nWater conservancy project from construction\, operation until scrap seems to be a living life\, as a water conservancy people we should manage it wholeheartedly in the whole process of its life\, with the applications of modern technology. Recently\, we developed the integrated management software system of water conservancy project construction process\, standardized operation management software system of water conservancy project\, and some kinds of optimization scheduling decision software system\, etc. How can this provide decision-making for the whole life optimization management of water conservancy project: to improve the service life of water conservancy project and benefit people for a long time! \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]The Wetskills organization is looking for Case Owners; companies\, knowledge institutes and organisations that formulate their case and support one of the Wetskills programmes worldwide. SUMMARY:SunGlacier Challenge in Oman
DESCRIPTION:About The Event\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]A global challenge to accelerate dew harvesting techniques that the world needs!\nThe partners of the SunGlacier Challenge invited teams of universities worldwide to join this unique challenge in Oman (20-25 March 2018) to make water from the air! Eventually 3 Dutch and Omani teams created their own SunGlacier (based on some provides techniques). On 22 March the challenge started with the 48 hours run. Main goal: going further with the latest techniques to provide the world with a new\, reliable and cheap water source! \nRead the daily blogs about the event and the experiences of participants and challenge partners or follow the Wetskills Social Media (Twitter\, Facebook and Instagram). \n\n  \nThis edition is the pilot of a five year programme. The partners aim to organize this SunGlacier Challenge yearly to speed up the information\, insights and knowledge of this technique for water supply. If you are interested\, contact Johan Oost (johan.oost@wetskills.com). \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Practical information\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_button icon_pack=”font_awesome” fa_icon=”fa-facebook” icon_position=”right” target=”_self” font_weight=”” text=”Attend on Facebook” link=”https://www.facebook.com/events/1887814874789933/” icon_color=”#ffffff”][vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Programme:  \n\n20 March: Arrival\n21 March: Welcome\, preparation and testing\n22 March: Workshop at MEDRC\, start 48 hour run\n23 March: check devices\, cultural and social programme\n24 March: End of 48 run\, preparing for presentation\, Farewell dinner\n25 March: World Water Day celebration Sultan Qaboos University\, presentation\, awarding winners\n\n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Background\nIn 2010 Artist Ap Verheggen started the “Art meets Science” project SunGlacier: Harvest Water from Air\, fully powered by Solar Energy. With a team of volunteering experts ‘the SunGlacier Team’ he tested the limits to investigate how small and cheap we can build a water harvest machine that is off-grid\, powered by solar energy. Because solar energy can be limited and variable – with cloud cover and night cycles – we faced the challenge to use all energy as efficient as possible. The first SunGlacier sculpture is built with existing\, off-the-shelf technology\, but the latest versions are built with our own custom-designed technology. \nAp Verheggen combined design and technology and built several prototypes and one of them: “DC03” even runs without a battery\, a convertor\, or a fan. So nearly no maintenance and nothing can break. A cheap Peltier cooler is directly connected to a small solar panel and it makes drops of water. This technology is so promising because of low costs and durable components that Ap published all details on his website www.SunGlacier.com \nSunGlacier Challenge\nThe accelerate the speed of development of this promising SunGlacier technology\, some partners joined forces and decided to launch the SunGlacier Challenge\, with the goal to produce water out of air\, powered by solar energy. The competition location will be Oman\, with the partner Sultan Qaboos University. \nThe partners invite teams teams of university students\, young professionals from knowledge institutes or groups of friends in the field to build their own SunGlacier and join this competition. Note: The participants needs to be younger than 35 years. \nProgramme: Challenge\, Conference and social activities\nAfter the SunGlacier Challenge a Conference will be organized to learn more about the techniques from each other. Experts will be asked to join the Conference programme. \nIn the SunGlacier Challenge programme various social and cultural activities will be organized to meet each other and experience the culture and country of Oman. \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”53058\,53057\,53056\,53055″ column_number=”5″ grayscale=”no” hover_icon=”none” images_space=”gallery_with_space”][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]The Rules\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]The techniques\nThe techniques of SunGlacier will be public here. This is the basic information to use for your own SunGlacier. You can also make your own SunGlacier! \nThe competition\nMaximum 15 teams from various countries worldwide will be selected for this event. \nEvery team will get a standard solar pannel of 50 or 250 Watt (peak). Panel can turn with the sun if designed. A Peltier element (if used) can be replaced one time\, when broken. The winner of the competition is based on a 48 hours run for 50 or 250 Watt. \nSunGlacier is an Art Project so a special award will be provided for “best design” (based on a jury’s decision under chair of Ap Verheggen). \nThe prices will be announced in a later stage\, after attracting more partners. \nApplication deadlines\nThe official registration is via the registration button of this website. If you are interested as and/or already formed a team\, please send Mr. Tim van der Staaij an email. \nCosts\nThe participation of this challenge and the conference afterwards is free. Project partners and Sponsors will cover the costs. \nHowever the travel of the student team and the SunGlacier\, the accommodation and daily costs needs to be paid by the participating team. The team is allowed to find sponsors. \nMore information\nFor more information about participation as team or university\, please contact Marcel Rompelman (marcel.rompelman@wetskills.com). \nFor other information about companies as potential partner\, please contact Johan Oost (johan.oost@wetskills.com). \n[vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Call for partners\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]The SunGlacier Challenge organization is looking for partners to step in the Challenge for the coming 5 years!\nWould you as company\, university\, knowledge institute\, government and/or NGO like to step in to make this SunGlacier Challenge a success? SUMMARY:Wetskills-Iran 2016
DESCRIPTION:About The Event\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Tehran-Iran\, Minister of Environment and Infrastructure of Kingdom of The Netherlands\, Ms. Schultz van Haegen announced and awarded the winning team of Wetskills-Iran. The Wetskills jury found that returning a flamingo to Lake Urmia to raise awareness on all kinds of levels in society (from primary schools to farmers to municipalities) was the idea worth awarding. The awards were given at the trade dinner for the Dutch mission to Iran headed by Ms. Schultz van Haegen. \nFollowing two weeks of hard work\, cooperation and fun\, the fice Wetskills teams presented their pitches and posters of this Wetskills Water Challenge in Iran on Sunday 24th October. The ideas pitched were vastly ranging from technical solutions to give more time in adapting lifestyle for Rafsajan pistachio farmers to integrating sensor technology to create awareness by installing a large flamingo in Lake Urmia\, reacting to water level\, to entice inhabitants to a race to fill up the lake. A nice new introduction of rice farming in combination with dredging was given as solution for silting up of Anzali port and peach juice production as alternative livelihoods for the Hashgerd plain included a good sense of community work and regional economy development. Missing links were noticed in society and technology for the case of clean drinking water and by closing the gaps a solution was found. \nBetween 15 and 25 October\, the first Iranian Wetskills Challenge took place in Iran. During the event in Tehran\, 25 students and young professionals from Iran and The Netherlands worked together in teams to come up with out-of-the-box concepts for actual water related cases\, posed by Iranian and Dutch case owners. The event was aligned to the trade mission of Minister of Infrastructure & Environment of The Netherlands\, Ms. Schultz van Haegen to Iran. The Sharif University of Technology Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran are joinly hosting the event. \n  \nPress-release no1 Wetskills to Iran \nMedia Advisory-about Wetskills-Iran 2016 \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][no_blockquote text=”‘Participating in a Wetskills Water Challenge was a great experience. Though technically and economically water re-use provides excellent opportunities\, the cultural and religious resistance against bringing back treated waste water in the drinking water cycle is considerable. However\, there is plenty of opportunity to re-use water outside applications that directly or indirectly involve human consumption (e.g. landscaping\, cooling\, industrial use). How can the amount of water increased that is re-used safely and disinfected? \nCase 2: Resilient water management with stakeholders in Rafsanjan\nCase owner: ITC-University of Twente \nRafsanjan\, the main producer of pistachio in Iran\, is a sample of human settlements coping with severe water scarcity and its associated socio-economic problems. Beside the engineering solutions we need to make the socio-ecological systems more resilient in water scarce situation. The assessment of different policy options in this hazardous situation is a new challenge. \nCase 3: Finding unconventional Water Sources\n\nCase owner: Lake Urmia Restoration Programme \nLake Uremia is a lake with salt water. The shrinking of the lake results in soil challenges for the agriculture. The Wetskills Team that will work on this project might find solutions related to cloud seeding\, preventing salt dispersion or changing the economic ratio and thus finding another way of life for the region. \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Poster with results \n[vc_single_image image=”52388″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” img_link_target=”_blank” qode_css_animation=””]Poster with results \n[vc_single_image image=”52389″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” img_link_target=”_blank” qode_css_animation=””]Poster with results \n[vc_single_image image=”52390″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” img_link_target=”_blank” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Case 4: Improving the irrigation water-efficiency in Hashtgerd Plain\n\nCase owner: Dutch Water Authorities / De Dommel \nA substantial increase in the rate of industrialization\, agricultural activities and urbanization in Hashtgerd Plain\, results in a dramatic  increase of water consumption. Consequently\, appropriate water resources management is essential. \nThe proposed result-oriented methodology (SSBK)\, tries to avoid impulsive actions by identifying existing bottlenecks and postponing thinking in solutions. \nCase 5: Cleaning the sediments of Anzali Port\nCase owner: Van Oord \nAnzali Port is located in the north of Iran at the Caspian Sea. The port is situated at the famous Anzali lagoon. Due to the sediments and tons of household\, industrial and hospital waste entering the lagoon each year\, the lagoon has gone from a nine-metre depth in 1975 to just one metre. \nHow can the sediments from the lagoon to the Anzali port be reduced in the short and long term. \n[vc_empty_space height=”16px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Poster with results \n[vc_single_image image=”52391″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” img_link_target=”_blank” qode_css_animation=””]Poster with results \n[vc_single_image image=”52392″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” img_link_target=”_blank” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”52115\,52116\,52117\,52112\,52111″ column_number=”5″ grayscale=”no” hover_icon=”none” images_space=”gallery_with_space”]Event Partners\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”52140″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52317″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52141″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52315″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”52175″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52240″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52239″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52245″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”52318″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52148″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52246″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52257″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_single_image image=”52247″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52146″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52243″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””][vc_single_image image=”52155″ img_size=”220×125″ style=”vc_box_rounded” qode_css_animation=””]

SUMMARY:Wetskills Romania 2015
DESCRIPTION:About The Event\n[vc_single_image image=”50762″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space image_repeat=”no-repeat”]Wetskills back in Romania \nOn 5 June 2015\, the new edition of the Wetskills Water Challenge started in Bucharest. After the successful event in 2013\, Wetskills was invited by the Politehnica to hold a new event. 18 students from Romanian and Dutch universities participated in the two-weeks programme. The programme started in Constanta with the teambuilding trip to wastewater treatment plant and a construction site of Van Oord’s project aimed at preventing further costal erosion. The Wetskills final presentations and awarding ceremony were held during the ExpoApa (17 June). \nRomanian Water Association and the Technical University of Civil Engineering became part of the consortium. The Netherlands Embassy in Romania was supporting this event. \n‘Scrap the sand – Save the land’ was the winning concept of the Flood Guards team\, consisting of: Niels Oostveen (Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences)\, Laura Alexandra Stănescu (Politehnica University Bucharest)\, Geanina-Franca Băcăoanu (Technical University for Civil Engineering in Bucharest) & Peter de Jong (Utrecht University).
