New Wetskills-India in preparation

Water Challenges in Gujarat, India. (Machtelijn Brummel, RVO - Duurzaam Door & Wetskills) At the end of 2015 the first Indian Wetskills challenge took place. The Center for Environmental Education India (CEEIndia) hosted this first edition from November 30, 2015 to December 11, 2015. 25 students and young professionals from India and the Netherlands came together to work on five local cases in the field of waste-watertechnology, rural watermanagement and urban water solutions in the community. The participants, but also the wetskills supervisors experienced 2 weeks of a lot of new and exciting impressions, special foods, local trafic-habits and beautiful cultural (water)heritage. We visited treatment plants as well as ancient water harvesting structures and worked under high time-pressure on solutions and idea’s for wicked water challenges. Wetskills starts in Boston

Boston, Massachusetts, United States – After 19 successful editions worldwide, of which two in North America, the Wetskills Water Challenge will be organized in Boston for the first time. This Wetskills program will start at 12 June and end at 23 June. Young professionals and students in the American and Dutch water industry will compete to develop an innovative concept for four case studies to create solutions for water issues in a changing world. Impressive finals of Wetskills South-Africa

Durban – On the 16th of May five groups of young water professionals presented their innovative ideas for water related challenges during the Wetskills competition. The winning team presented an impressive solution for dealing with drought and flooding in the Inkomati river basin area, shared by South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique. Henk Ovink, Special Envoy for International Water Affairs of the Netherlands was the head of the jury. He praised the five international teams for their out-of-the-box thinking. Wetskills Brains Hurricane in Durban

On Monday 9 May the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban hosted the Wetskills Brain Hurricane. As part of a Wetskills Challenge in Durban between 6 and 18 May, 19 students and young professionals from The Netherlands, South-Africa, Swaziland and other African countries brainstormed with 9 water professionals about actual problems with water quality and water safety. The participants are working in small groups to find out-of-the-box solutions for actual water related cases from companies and (governmental) organizations.
